Do NOT get a "small business" AE account. Everytime you charge something, they send you a warning that " additional transactions may be declined" (other people with these accounts tell me they experience the same thing). Also it is impossible to pay your balance going through their app: I just pay it through my bank.

I was an American Express cardmember for over 20 years and have maintained a consistent on-time payment history throughout that time. Despite being a long-term, reliable customer, my request for an APR reduction was denied without any meaningful explanation. It's frustrating to see new customers receive promotional rates and better terms while loyal customers who have demonstrated responsible credit use for decades are offered no consideration.

When you're actually signed in, everything works fine. Information displays easy enough, the UI is mostly easy to navigate and pleasing to use, and it's easy to make payments. But I really wish the biometrics issue would be fixed. It never lets me sign in with fingerprint, and always requires a password. It's been happening for a long time and can be annoying.

Used to be great. I used to be able to easily see my available balance, credit limit, etc. After a recent update, items were removed from the main page. Also, the new "one-time passcode"every single time you log in, is a hassle & useless. E.g., if someone had my phone & able to log into my app, they would easily be able to retrieve a text passcode. There's no way to disable it. Remember device doesn't work. At least give me the option! I'll update my review if it goes back to the way it was.

The current balance is not included below each transaction, making it extremely difficult to track how much you've charged. Other apps I've used such as Bank of America keep a running total balance next to each transaction, so if you like to pay off your total balance, then you can see what pending charges aren't being included in that payment. Without that transparency, it is incredibly frustrating to pay off total balance and have that balance spike back up when the pending charges post.
