4.6 As someone who has always been curious about my family history, I found myself using the Ancestry app in various scenarios. One of my favorite moments was during a family gathering. I pulled out the app to show my relatives the family tree I had been building. Everyone was excited to see our shared ancestors, and it sparked a lively discussion about our family’s past. Another scenario was when I was on vacation and had some downtime. I used the app to explore historical records related to a specific ancestor, which led me to discover fascinating details about their life that I could share with my family later.
The user interface of Ancestry is clean and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. I found the family tree builder particularly user-friendly; dragging and dropping family members into place felt seamless. The app’s performance is impressive, with quick loading times and smooth transitions between features. I appreciated the hints provided by the app, which guided me toward potential records and connections. Overall, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The thrill of uncovering family secrets and connecting with distant relatives has made my journey into genealogy incredibly rewarding.
Ancestry offers a variety of subscription plans, ranging from a basic package to more comprehensive options that include access to international records and advanced features. I opted for the standard plan, which provides ample resources for my research needs. While the pricing may seem steep at first, the wealth of information and tools available makes it a worthwhile investment for anyone serious about tracing their family history.
The Ancestry app is regularly updated, ensuring that users have access to the latest features and improvements. I’ve noticed enhancements in the user interface and additional record collections being added frequently. Customer support is also commendable; I reached out with a question about my subscription, and the response was prompt and helpful. The support team is knowledgeable and genuinely interested in assisting users with their genealogy journeys.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using an app like Ancestry. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. During registration, I was required to provide personal information, including my name, email, and some family details. However, I appreciated that Ancestry has a clear privacy policy outlining how my data would be used and protected.
Importantly, Ancestry does not display ads within the app, which is a relief. I also found that the app does not engage in excessive tracking behavior, focusing instead on enhancing user experience. Overall, I feel secure using Ancestry, knowing that my personal information is handled with care and that I have control over my privacy settings.

Long time user, very disappointed. It used to be you could add potential relatives without needing a subscription. Now all I can do is look at my tree and add people manually which is no help for people trying to put a family tree together from nothing. I'm lucky to have a list to go through. But even that isn't complete. Now I have no way of filling in gaps without a subscription. A pay wall shouldn't block something so simple and important. Do better.

This app barely lets you sign in. Then every single time you click on a potential relative it tosses up an error that it isn't available and you need to add it manually. Useless. **EDIT: I am not on an older version, as there is no update available. This app is awful. I am not going to email you when you tried to gaslight me into thinking it was my fault that your app is faulty. Work out the bugs and release the update.

I've been on Ancestry for nearly 20 years now, and the mobile app since it was first around. Unfortunately, in the last year or so the user interface on the mobile app has significantly decreased in quality. There are functions I can do on the desktop that I am not able to do on the mobile app (such as clicking on a member's public tree from their profile). It's not because I don't have the membership level, nor because my app is out of date. Extremely disappointed

As for the app itself, the layout isn't bad. It offers a lot of information without having to search for it, that being said, the amount of things they have put behind a paywall is absolutely insane. I shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars just to learn about my family. Also, ever since some update, everytime I look at hints it gives me an error. I'll usually have to go back and click it again multiple times just to load. It didn't used to have this problem, and yes, my app is "up to date."

For a service as popular as Ancestry, you would really expect them to have a functional app. But the glitching is almost constant. Branches often do not automatically collapse when you expand a new part of the tree, and it won't let you do so manually, resulting in icons being overlapped/muddled all over the place, making it impossible to open any individual profile. I have to restart the app almost constantly, making me lose track of where I was. It's almost unusable and extremely frustrating.
