Whether you're diving into a novel, exploring non-fiction, or listening to an audiobook, Apple Books enhances your reading experience with its rich content and intuitive design.

Features & Highlights

Apple Books is a versatile reading app that caters to both casual readers and avid bookworms alike. With its user-friendly interface and a plethora of features, it has become my go-to app for reading and listening to books. Here are some of the standout features that make Apple Books a must-have:

  • Extensive Library: Apple Books offers a vast selection of books, audiobooks, and even PDFs. Whether you’re into bestsellers, classics, or niche genres, you can find something that piques your interest. For instance, I recently discovered a hidden gem in the science fiction section that I couldn’t put down!
  • Seamless Syncing: One of the best features is the ability to sync your reading progress across all your Apple devices. I often switch between my iPhone and iPad, and it’s incredibly convenient to pick up right where I left off without any hassle.
  • Customizable Reading Experience: Apple Books allows you to adjust font sizes, background colors, and even the brightness of your screen. I love reading at night, and the night mode feature makes it easy on my eyes, allowing me to enjoy my favorite novels without straining.
  • Built-in Audiobooks: For those days when I’m too busy to sit down with a book, the audiobook feature is a lifesaver. I often listen to audiobooks while commuting, and the narration quality is top-notch, making the experience immersive and enjoyable.
  • Highlighting and Note-Taking: As a student, I find the highlighting and note-taking features invaluable. I can easily mark important passages and jot down my thoughts, which helps me during study sessions and discussions.

Real Experience Using "Apple Books"

Application Scenarios

My journey with Apple Books began during my daily commute. I often found myself stuck in traffic, and instead of scrolling through social media, I decided to dive into a novel. The app quickly became my companion, transforming mundane travel time into an opportunity for adventure. I also use it during my lunch breaks, where I can escape into a different world for a few minutes. On weekends, I enjoy cozying up on the couch with my iPad, losing myself in a gripping story. The versatility of Apple Books allows me to read whenever and wherever I want, making it an essential part of my daily routine.

User Experience

The user interface of Apple Books is sleek and intuitive. Navigating through the app feels effortless, with a clean layout that makes finding books a breeze. The home screen showcases my current reads, recommended titles, and even curated collections based on my interests. I appreciate how easy it is to switch between reading and listening modes; the transition is seamless. Performance-wise, the app runs smoothly without any lag, even when I have multiple books downloaded. Overall, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Apple Books has not only enhanced my reading habits but has also made it enjoyable and accessible.

Pricing

Apple Books operates on a pay-per-book model, which means you only pay for the titles you want. While some may find this less economical than subscription services, I appreciate the flexibility it offers. I can choose to buy a book outright or opt for an audiobook, depending on my mood. Prices vary, but I often find great deals on popular titles, making it easy to indulge in my reading passion without breaking the bank.

Updates & Support

Apple frequently updates the Books app, introducing new features and improving existing ones. I’ve noticed enhancements in the audiobook section, including better organization and recommendations. The support provided by Apple is also commendable; I’ve had a few questions regarding syncing issues, and their customer service was prompt and helpful. The comprehensive help section within the app is another great resource for troubleshooting common problems.

Security & Privacy Review

As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, and Apple Books does not disappoint. The app is available through the official App Store, ensuring that I’m downloading a legitimate version. Registration is straightforward, requiring only my Apple ID, which I appreciate for its simplicity. I’m also reassured by Apple’s commitment to user privacy; they do not sell my data to third parties, and I have control over my personal information.

Moreover, Apple Books does not bombard me with ads or tracking behavior, which is a significant plus. I can enjoy my reading experience without distractions or concerns about my data being misused. Overall, I feel secure using Apple Books, knowing that my privacy is respected and protected.

I have not only viewed, for "free," many "samples" of many books on Play Books, but I have also PURCHASED many of those exact same books. That said, why for "some" of those same Books that I had paid for, some I can copy and paste from with no restrictions, others, strangely enough, I can not, even though, in the end, I understand "copyrights" and so on and so on. My opinion: distracting, extra-burdensome, time-wasting--and, frankly, not a good way to keep one shopping at the same (ANY) store.

the app is great for reading, but the organizational ability leaves a lot to be desired. you can make shelves but can't sort them into a custom order, which sucks because sometimes the titles have typos, so the predefined sorters just put it out of order anyway as a result. then there's the fact that the series tab is missing a lot of information. I own an entire book series, yet that tab stays completely empty, only showing it in my library.

The app ended up being pretty easy to use. It can still be a little awkward and slow to react. And it takes a little getting used to for knowing what's downloaded and where you are in some of the books, but for simple reading it works just fine. I set aside some time to configure book displays like I wanted (or as close as possible) and now it's good.

While the listening experience is great, I only have 2 gripes. First being that it would be very helpful if we can edit our own bookmarks. Bookmarking in the middle of a sentence which 80% of the time is so misworded, misspelled, and makes absolutely no sense without context around what is happening. I've never seen an audiobook app that doesn't allow for us to word our own bookmarks. Second, the skip ahead to the next chapter is wonderful, but doesn't include go back to the previous chapter.

It works well for the most basic of use cases: reading. But it lacks a lot of features that other reader apps have. For instance, if you want to highlight text on multiple pages... nope! can't do that! Compare this to what Kindle app offers, or even some of the smaller apps offers, it's very bare-bones. At least the book prices are somewhat competitive!! And syncing books and progress across multiple devices works well.
