This is a really good time killer that you can pick up and put down fast, but I've had a few issues that have persisted over the years I've been playing. Many times it will randomly stop taking inputs for a moment, or act like I'm holding a button down when I'm not. It also sometimes just freezes and ends the run. YMMV because maybe it's my phone, but it's been a consistent problem across many android versions. The game is unforgiving, which would be fine if the controls were consistent.

This is amazing! After several months, I managed to beat this. It is tons of fun. I do have a complaint aboout the controls. Sometimes, I press a button and it doesn't register. Other times, let go of the jump/shoot button, and have my other thumb on one of the move buttons, but it actually shoots. Oh, and sometimes it freezes in the level transitions. And the Timeout upgrade plays funny with the boss :P But, other than that, it absolutely rocks. <3

really cool game except for the controls. you can adjust the distance between left/right and jump, but you can't adjust between left and right. ideally there'd be an additional control so you could move left and right without taking your finger off the screen. I often try to tap left or right and just miss the button and die. it's quite frustrating.

Downwell is like Metroid, if you could only fire down, all the levels were all centered around trying to get further and further down, and there were only 2 colors. The gameplay simplistic but difficult to master. Some crazy gamer with twitch-like controls could beat the game in under 20 minutes, but I've gotten probably 20 hours of gameplay from this before finally beating it, only to find that it unlocks Hard Mode. This was a ton of fun and exactly what I like to see in a mobile game.

An incredibly meticulous and well-made phone game. Downwell will have you playing for hours in your own home because it's that fun. It's addicting, but it achieves this without the use of predatory, anti-consumer features like wait times, loss-aversion. This game is hard, be warned, and action-packed. A lot of phone gamers may not be looking for a twitchy game like Downwell, and if that's the case, turn back. However, if fast-paced gameplay appeals to you, it's absolutely worth the $3.
