Files by Google is a smart file management app designed to help you organize, clean up, and share files on your device. With features like file search, offline access, and storage management, it simplifies the way you handle documents, photos, and videos. The app also offers secure file sharing and recommendations for freeing up space, making it an essential tool for optimizing your device's performance and keeping your files easily accessible.

Features & Highlights

Files by Google is a versatile file management app that stands out for its user-friendly interface and powerful features. Here are some of its core highlights:

  • Smart Storage Management: This feature helps you free up space on your device by identifying files you no longer need. For instance, I often receive notifications suggesting I delete duplicate photos or large files that I haven’t accessed in months, making it easy to keep my device clutter-free.
  • File Sharing Made Easy: With Files by Google, sharing files with friends or colleagues is a breeze. I recently used the app to share a large video file with a coworker. Instead of relying on email, I simply selected the file, chose the “Share” option, and sent it directly via Bluetooth, which was much faster and more efficient.
  • Offline File Access: One of the standout features is the ability to access files without an internet connection. I often travel and find myself in areas with poor connectivity. Files by Google allows me to access important documents and photos stored on my device without needing to be online.
  • Clean and Intuitive Interface: The app’s design is sleek and user-friendly, making navigation a joy. I appreciate how easy it is to find what I’m looking for, whether it’s a photo from last summer or a PDF I downloaded last week.
  • Integrated Search Functionality: The search feature is robust, allowing me to quickly locate files by name or type. Just the other day, I needed to find a specific presentation file. I typed in a few keywords, and the app instantly displayed the relevant results, saving me time and frustration.

I've used file explorers since my Palm Pilot days, sheets iPhone for the complicated ones. This great utility sneaked up on me. After saying 'oh alright, I'll try it" ... I|delighted at it's clarity, no nonsense simplicity and it JUST WORKS. It's terrific, and then if you like sophisticated ones, 85% of the time, this one will do it and probably easier with less chance of you making an error. Cheers 👍😉

I've gotten rid of my other file managers as this one is near perfect. It's not 5 stars because I cannot search through the app to find Drive files. I mean why let us connect to drive if the search box cannot find files in drive. I also wish (in my pixel) I was able to use the app drawer search bar to find files that are managed with my files app? I think we were able too before but for some reason it was removed. Good app but needs better integration with Android and Google Drive.

I find the layout of Googles Files app easy to understand & mostly simple to work with. There have been a few instances when I was attempting to transfer/move files from the internal storage to the SD storage. Not sure what or where in the process I may have errored. so I closed the app for the time being & came back later & it worked fine.

I was needing to transfer a lot of slides in the fronts of .png. Google drive doesn't have the option to download full folders, so now I have to manually download all the slides png and re-organize them in Files app. That's already enough to make it a very lengthy and tedious process. BUT NOW, Files can't recognize SINGLE DIGITS FILE NAMES, you have to put zeros in front of them to be sorted! E.g. You get 1 10 11, 2, 21, 22 if you name files that way, work only with zeroes 01, 02, 10, 11, 21.

4 out of 5 Stars. Why? I'll break it down 4 U: I love how you can just organize and keep things simple, but complex. My ranks based on numbers and letters, I give this a 9.5 out of 10 as well as an A tier. The reason it's not an S tier or a 10/10 is because let's say if you have laptop at home right? This app does not allow you to save your pictures or your videos onto your laptop just by syncing the two devices together. and if it did it has to be the same Files app Version. But it isn't.
