4.6 Galatea: Books & Audiobooks is a unique app that combines the joy of reading with the convenience of audiobooks, all while offering a rich, interactive experience. Here are some of its standout features:
My journey with Galatea began during a particularly hectic week at work. I found myself needing a break from the daily grind, and the app quickly became my escape. Whether I was waiting for my coffee to brew in the morning or unwinding after a long day, Galatea provided the perfect outlet. I often used it during my daily commute, where I could switch between reading and listening seamlessly. The interactive storytelling feature allowed me to feel like I was part of the narrative, making even the most mundane moments feel exciting.
The user interface of Galatea is sleek and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a clean layout that showcased trending stories and personalized recommendations based on my reading history. The workflow is smooth; I can easily switch between reading and listening modes with just a tap. The performance is impressive, with minimal loading times and no glitches, which is crucial for an immersive experience. Overall, I felt a genuine connection to the stories, and the app's design enhances that feeling, making it a joy to use.
Galatea operates on a subscription model, offering a free trial for new users to explore its features. After the trial, the subscription fee is quite reasonable, especially considering the vast library and the quality of content available. I found the investment worthwhile, as it grants me unlimited access to a plethora of books and audiobooks, making it a great value for avid readers like myself.
The developers of Galatea are committed to enhancing user experience, regularly rolling out updates that introduce new features and fix any bugs. I’ve noticed improvements in the app’s performance and the addition of new stories that keep the content fresh. Customer support is responsive and helpful, addressing any queries I had promptly. This level of support gives me confidence in the app and its ongoing development.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, and Galatea does a commendable job in this regard. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring it meets the necessary security standards. During registration, I was only required to provide basic personal information, which is a relief compared to many other apps that demand excessive data.
Galatea does not bombard users with ads, which enhances the reading experience. Additionally, I appreciate that the app does not engage in invasive tracking behavior, allowing me to enjoy my stories without feeling like my data is being exploited. Overall, I feel secure using Galatea, knowing that my privacy is respected while I indulge in my reading adventures.

The books are great. However if you want to read more than one chapter a day or one chapter a week you have to spend money. You can earn 1 point a day by "checking in" but when most chapters cost 4 points, they go quick. I could buy books from a big retail store for cheaper than the cost if I was to buy points. And I read too many other reviews about the "unlimited" option to avoid it. My response to the automated reply... is what "daily tasks"?

Had the app about a week? I'm currently reading like five stories, and they're engaging and enjoyable enough. But I'm having to read so many simultaneously because it takes SIX hours to unlock the next chapter or two. I'm not likely to spend points to unlock them, because the point generation is negligible, only one a day and some one-time unlocks. I'm a free2play girlie, I ain't spending irl money for fake money. I'll watch an ad for some in-app currency, but they don't offer that.

Would give 0 stars if possible! Got the app to read free books from indie, underground authors. I expected ads but what I didn't expect was that I would only be able to read 2 chapters every 5 hours. They twist your arm into buying the unlimited which I did. Unlimited said it was $5 something a month so I said cool cause I had like $20 on my bank account. This app really charged me $76.64 plus whatever this "courtesy" fee is which was $32 somehow totally bypassing my overdraft protection. >:(

Edited again: It looks like they finally took advice & came up with a membership. They still have it where the points needed to unlock chapters go up considerably as you unlock new ones. That still feels skeevy to me. It quickly turns into 20 points each chapter. It's basically only worth it to get the subscription (that you have to pay yearly, upfront), which is probably the point. Stories are pretty good, so I think it's worth it, but only for the sub.

I'm not a huge fan of the wait times. I'm also not happy about the lack of things to do to get points, other than making purchases. I get it. The app and the authors need to make their money, too. I just don't like reading books in increments, and I don't like spending a buttload of cash to get points that expire if they aren't used right away. The only saving grace... the books are pretty good. This is why I'm bitter about the wait times and the lack of point options 🤷🏼♀️
