4.5 GuitarTuna: Tune & Play Guitar is not just another tuning app; it’s a comprehensive tool designed for guitarists of all levels. Here are some of its standout features that make it a must-have for any musician:
As an avid guitarist, I find myself reaching for GuitarTuna in various scenarios throughout my day. Whether I’m at home, preparing for a gig, or hanging out with friends, this app is always within arm's reach. For instance, just last week, I was invited to a spontaneous jam session at a friend's house. I arrived with my guitar, but as usual, it needed tuning. Instead of fumbling with a clip-on tuner, I quickly pulled out my phone, opened GuitarTuna, and within seconds, my guitar was perfectly tuned. The ease of use in such situations is invaluable, allowing me to focus on playing rather than worrying about whether my instrument is in tune.
The user interface of GuitarTuna is clean and intuitive, making it easy for anyone to navigate. Upon opening the app, I’m greeted with a simple layout that allows me to choose between tuning, chords, and the metronome with just a tap. The tuning process is straightforward; I simply select my instrument, pluck a string, and the app guides me with visual cues to achieve the correct pitch. The responsiveness is impressive, and I’ve never experienced lag, even in noisy environments. Overall, my experience with GuitarTuna has been overwhelmingly positive. It feels like a reliable companion that enhances my practice sessions and helps me improve my skills.
GuitarTuna is free to download and use, which is fantastic for anyone looking to enhance their musical journey without breaking the bank. While there are premium features available through in-app purchases, the free version offers ample functionality for most users. I’ve found that the basic features meet my needs perfectly, but I appreciate the option to explore additional content if I ever want to dive deeper into my musical education.
The developers of GuitarTuna are committed to providing a seamless user experience, as evidenced by regular updates that enhance functionality and fix any bugs. I’ve noticed improvements in the app’s performance and additional features being rolled out over time. If I ever encounter an issue, the support team is responsive and helpful, ensuring that I can get back to playing without unnecessary delays. Their dedication to user satisfaction is evident, making me feel valued as a customer.
When it comes to security and privacy, GuitarTuna takes user concerns seriously. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the necessary security standards for mobile applications. Upon installation, I was pleased to find that the app does not require excessive personal data for registration, which is a significant plus for privacy-conscious users like myself. I appreciate that I can use the app without having to share my email or other sensitive information.
Additionally, GuitarTuna is transparent about its advertising and tracking behavior. While the free version does include ads, they are not intrusive and do not detract from the overall user experience. I’ve noticed that the app does not track my usage in a way that feels invasive, allowing me to focus on my music without worrying about my data being misused. Overall, I feel secure using GuitarTuna, knowing that my privacy is respected while I enjoy its features.

Tuner is absolute top shelf best you're ever gonna find.... EVER. Don't even bother looking, don't even try finding something else. The subscription is definitely worth it. The little practice lessons can help dial in those tricky strum patterns or nail the intricacies of that solo you've been struggling with. 5 stars is too low, this is a 6-star app. If you found my review helpful, buy me a beer or something. Cheers and be excellent to one another 🍻🤘

this is a really difficult issue I have because I value what this app has to offer and the theory but with an acoustic the sound recognition is just horrible and I have spent hours my phone to pick up basic riffs basic strumming patterns basic note input and it's to the point now where basically I can't use half the app because it's made it pointless to try to learn a song. you can get credit basically just for watching how song is played but not for actually trying to play the song.

For anyone that wants to try the app for free and play in a non-standard tuning (Drop C in my case), I would look elsewhere. There is a shortish onboarding process. When you finally get to the tuner, you realize that you can only tune to standard. One last thing that didn't feel great is how there are obvious dark patterns meant to steer you into subscribing before you've even completed the onboarding. I think that this app might be good for absolute beginners playing in standard tuning.

Dont touch this app in its current state, used to be a fine tuner app, paid to have access to all the extra tunings many years ago. At some point they updated the app and added a brand new paid membership option that it advertises everytime you launch the app. Now I have to skip through the mandatory ads for said paid membership everytime I open the app just so I can go to settings and find the restore purchases setting because it doesnt remember I gave them money. Dont download.

This is a great app if you are new to guitar and ready to just learn the basics. In my opinion once you get past the first few lessons it's pretty easy to teach yourself by just looking at the chords. The tuner is also very helpful and I use it every time I play my guitar. However I prefer not to learn full songs from this app because it doesn't show you the strumming pattern, and you have to pay to listen to and learn the whole song. There's also constantly ads telling you to subscribe.
