Features & Highlights

  • Extensive Recipe Collection: America's Test Kitchen boasts a vast library of meticulously tested recipes. Whether you're a novice cook or a seasoned chef, you can find everything from classic comfort foods to innovative dishes. For instance, I recently used the app to prepare a perfect roast chicken, following their step-by-step guide that ensured juicy meat and crispy skin.
  • Video Tutorials: The app includes a plethora of video tutorials that visually guide you through complex cooking techniques. I found this particularly helpful when I wanted to master the art of making homemade pasta. Watching the chefs demonstrate the kneading and rolling process made it much easier to replicate at home.
  • Ingredient Substitutions: One of the standout features is the ingredient substitution guide. When I realized I was out of buttermilk for a pancake recipe, the app suggested using milk and vinegar as a quick substitute. This feature saved my breakfast plans and ensured I could still whip up delicious pancakes without a trip to the store.
  • Meal Planning Tools: The app offers meal planning tools that allow you to organize your weekly meals efficiently. I often use this feature on Sundays to plan out my dinners for the week, which helps me save time and reduce food waste. The ability to create a shopping list directly from my meal plan is a game-changer!
  • Expert Tips and Techniques: America's Test Kitchen is known for its rigorous testing, and the app reflects this with expert tips sprinkled throughout the recipes. I appreciate the little nuggets of wisdom, like how to properly season my dishes or the best way to chop an onion, which have elevated my cooking skills significantly.

One of my favorite scenarios is when I host dinner parties. I often browse the app for crowd-pleasing recipes that are both impressive and manageable. Recently, I decided to make a three-course meal for friends, and the app helped me select a starter, main course, and dessert that complemented each other beautifully. I also use the app during busy weeknights when I need quick, reliable recipes that I can trust to deliver great results without spending hours in the kitchen.

For anyone serious about cooking, this investment is well worth it, as it pays off in the form of delicious meals and improved culinary skills.

Updates & Support

The app is regularly updated with new recipes and features, which keeps the content fresh and exciting. I’ve noticed that they often incorporate seasonal ingredients into their recipes, which I appreciate. Customer support is also commendable; I had a minor issue with my subscription, and their team responded promptly and resolved it efficiently. The FAQs section is comprehensive, addressing most common queries, which adds to the overall user experience.

Security & Privacy Review

When it comes to security and privacy, America's Test Kitchen takes user concerns seriously. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the necessary security standards for mobile applications. Registration requires basic personal information, such as an email address, which is standard for subscription services. I was pleased to find that the app does not bombard users with ads, and there is no invasive tracking behavior. So many bugs with this app, including: intense lag, missing recipes from collections, filters not working, and the occasional attempt to get me to pay again despite having a subscription. I've only had it 2 weeks and it drives me nuts. but the recipes are amazing!! Edit: Of course as soon as I leave a bad review it starts working perfectly!

The app is great. I love being able to save my favorite recipes for later. The videos added are really helpful because sometimes you just need to see how it was done! I would offer 2 suggestions. 1. add a feature to double or triple the ingredients for us. I can do math 1st thing in the morning, but after 5pm forget it! 2. add a section in the app where we can make notes on our favorite recipes, so we can remember any good changes we make.

Great resource! Decent app - it's an attractive UI and it works. My main issue is that I can't do multi-word searches reliably, e.g. "green beans". I would love a multi ingredient search for when I want to throw a couple of specific things together. I would also love if there were pairing suggestions for every entree. Sometimes I do not have the mental energy to think of sides to round out a meal!

I really like the intention of this app & I think it's off to a good start. Some suggestions: allow items in the grocery list to be edited, allow atk suggestions to be displayed along w/the quantity of the item (if I need 6 oz of cheese, I can't see both the "6 oz" & atk recommended brand), make sure if a grocery item says "frozen" it's added to the frozen food category, & there are several recipes & food tastings that don't seem to be in this app, but they can be found through the website.

I don't like the grocery list changes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but when I put in a custom item (apples, beef, etc) that's not part of a recipe, it used to put them in relevant categories which was awesome for efficient shopping. Now it just puts everything under "Other". It also used to suggest brands that won their "taste tests". Hope this changes.
