Here are some of the standout features that make Chess Pro a must-have for any chess lover:

  • Interactive Tutorials: The app offers step-by-step tutorials that guide you through the basics of chess. For instance, as a beginner, I found the interactive lessons invaluable when learning how to execute a checkmate. The visual aids and explanations helped me grasp concepts that I previously struggled with.
  • Endless Puzzles: Chess Pro includes a vast library of chess puzzles that challenge your strategic thinking. I often use this feature during my lunch breaks, solving puzzles that range from easy to extremely difficult. It’s a great way to sharpen my skills and keep my mind engaged.
  • Multiplayer Mode: The app allows you to play against friends or random opponents online. I recently challenged a friend to a match, and the real-time gameplay was seamless. The ability to chat while playing added a social element that made the experience even more enjoyable.
  • Game Analysis: After each match, Chess Pro provides detailed analysis of your gameplay, highlighting mistakes and suggesting better moves. I found this feature particularly useful after a tough game, as it helped me understand where I went wrong and how to improve for next time.
  • Customizable Boards and Pieces: The app allows you to personalize your chessboard and pieces, making the game visually appealing. I love switching up the themes based on my mood, whether I want a classic wooden board or a modern, sleek design.

For the price, the developer has done excellent job!!! Having said that, here are a few things that I want (not demanding). Configurable UI. I don't need to see big "Chess" text on top. (I know that I am playing chess..) I want more menu buttons (I always get computer's help and I have to press two buttons for that!) I don't want my captured pieces covered with text during the game or after the game for analysis. When I review the game, those steps buttons are on the left, I want to move right.

I love the app, but it would be great if the online multi-player had some kind of maximum time limit between moves. I'm currently in an active game where the opponent could tell he was losing, so he just paused the game and left. I have check mate in 1, but he hasn't made a move in over 12 hours so I can't play it and win. Clearly he's hoping that I'll abandon the game and his loss won't be recorded. Instead I guess I'll just leave it on pause forever, hoping he comes back.

Good app, but not for the casual player. If you're an average chess player just looking for an app to kill time and play a casual/untimed game against a CPU, this ain't it chief... There are 12 computer levels and maybe the first 3 (maybe 4) are winnable for the average player. That means you're gonna get dunked on by 80% of the game. Just rotating between 3 levels gets boring and the skill gap (to me) increases too much with increasing levels.

This game is really getting on my nerves. The AI is all over the place. I was on level 3 and had a 40% win rate. I went up to level 4 and it was super challenging but I started to get better and began racking up wins. It asked me if I wanted to move up but I decided to stay at 4 cuz I would still lose if I wasn't patient and playing smart. Then all of a sudden, it spiked in difficulty and just began crushing me over and over. Now I can barely get a win. It's infuriating how inconsistent it is.

Great for playing computer. I love that they added names of opening moves made. Keep that stuff up. What I don't like is, whenever you play another human and they start to lose or get stumped, they just pause the game and never come back instead of resigning or officially abandoning match. Drives me bonkers. No way to communicate with them, and no time limit that I know of.
