4.0 Meetup: Social Events & Groups is a powerful app designed to connect people through shared interests and activities. Here are some of its standout features that make it a must-have for anyone looking to expand their social circle:
As someone who thrives on social interactions, I often find myself using Meetup in various scenarios. For instance, when I moved to a new city, I felt a bit lost and lonely. I turned to Meetup to find local events that matched my interests. I quickly discovered a hiking group that met every Saturday morning. Not only did I get to explore the beautiful trails around my new home, but I also made friends who shared my love for the outdoors. Another scenario was when I wanted to learn more about digital marketing. I found a workshop through Meetup that not only provided valuable insights but also allowed me to network with professionals in the field.
The user interface of Meetup is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a clean layout that made navigation a breeze. The search function is robust, allowing me to filter events by date, location, and category. I particularly appreciated the seamless workflow from discovering an event to RSVPing. The performance of the app has been consistently smooth, with quick loading times and no crashes. Overall, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive; I feel empowered to explore new activities and connect with like-minded individuals.
Meetup operates on a freemium model. While joining groups and attending events is generally free, some organizers may charge a small fee for specific activities or workshops. I’ve found that most events I’ve attended have been free or very affordable, making it accessible for everyone. The value I’ve gained from the connections and experiences far outweighs any minimal costs.
The app is regularly updated, which is evident in the new features and improvements I’ve noticed over time. The support team is responsive and helpful; I once had a question about event notifications, and they got back to me within a day with a clear answer. The community aspect of Meetup is also enhanced by the active support from the developers, who seem genuinely invested in user feedback.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, and Meetup takes these concerns seriously. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring a level of credibility and security. During registration, I was required to provide basic personal information, such as my name and email address, but I appreciated that I could control my privacy settings and choose what information to share with other users.
Meetup does not bombard users with ads, which is a significant plus in my book. However, it does track user behavior to provide personalized recommendations, which is common in many apps today. I felt comfortable with the level of tracking, as it ultimately enhances my experience by connecting me with relevant events and groups. Overall, I believe Meetup strikes a good balance between functionality and user privacy, making it a trustworthy platform for social engagement.

I've been an organizer with meetup 17 years and it has gone downhill ovee.the last 7 years or so. The price to organize a group has gone up but with nothing important to offer to justify the extreme cost increase. And now you can pay as a user to get a more enhanced experience? I think not. I wouldn't waste anymore money on this app, especially since there are other, comparable apps out there now that cost way less to operate and are more fun to use.

Extremely slow, & buggy at times. For being mostly a text based app with few graphics, Meetup is annoyingly slow. Group pages & events take too long to load even when connected to strong wifi. Sometimes events dated for 2 days way say "happening tomorrow". In the past year, it started adding annoying pop up ads after you RSVP to an event, as well as popups to rate previously attended events. I've not found a way to turn off any of these options. Overall it seems updates don't make improvements

The app regularly switches half the text to Spanish, while the rest remains in English. There's no way to fix it since you can't pick your preferred language. When I bring this up to the support team, they blow me off with some canned response and then closed my ticket without fixing the issue. It's been this way for almost a year.

Extremely obnoxious UI, convoluted and cramped. Constant notification spam unless completely turned off and then impossible to turn it back on or only for certain groups (some you can and most you can't for uncertain reasons) Paywalls for virtually every feature. Bombarded with ads for other services any time you sign up for an event. They try to switch the payment button around so you accidentally click on it when trying to say "no".

Something is broken now. I've been a member for years and suddenly I now have no groups available and my account is not accessible. when I try to click on my pfrofile picture, I'm sent to a page that says "Something went wrong, try again later". Ihave an event today and others that I've signed up for in the future that I can search for and confirm I'm still on the list for each but my account seems broken and inaccesible. How does someone get help for this?
