Solocator is a powerful GPS field camera app designed for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts. It seamlessly integrates high-quality photography with precise geolocation data, allowing users to capture images with embedded GPS coordinates, timestamps, and compass information. Ideal for surveying, construction, and environmental monitoring, Solocator enhances documentation and reporting by providing accurate location context. With its user-friendly interface and customizable settings, it empowers users to create detailed visual records effortlessly.

Features & Highlights

Solocator - GPS Field Camera is a powerful tool designed for professionals and enthusiasts alike who need to capture images with precise location data. Here are some of its standout features:

  • GPS Tagging: Every photo you take is automatically tagged with GPS coordinates, ensuring that you can always pinpoint where the image was captured. For instance, while surveying a construction site, I was able to take photos of various stages of the project, and later, I could easily reference each image to its exact location on the site.
  • Customizable Watermarks: You can add personalized watermarks to your images, which is perfect for branding or protecting your work. As a freelance photographer, I often include my logo on images I share with clients, and Solocator makes this process seamless and professional.
  • Integrated Compass: The app features a built-in compass that displays the direction in which the photo was taken. This is particularly useful for outdoor activities like hiking or geocaching, where knowing the orientation of your photos can enhance your navigation experience.
  • Photo Metadata: Solocator provides detailed metadata for each image, including altitude, speed, and time. This feature is invaluable for environmental studies, where understanding the context of a photo can be as important as the image itself.
  • Offline Functionality: The app allows you to capture images and GPS data even when you’re out of cellular range. I often find myself in remote areas for my work, and being able to use Solocator without an internet connection has been a game-changer.

Real Experience Using "Solocator - GPS Field Camera"

Application Scenarios

As someone who frequently works in both photography and environmental research, I’ve found Solocator to be an indispensable tool. One of my favorite scenarios was during a recent field study in a national park. I needed to document various plant species and their locations for a conservation project. With Solocator, I could take high-quality photos of each plant, and the app automatically recorded the GPS coordinates. This made it incredibly easy to compile my findings later, as I could refer back to the exact spots where I took each photo.

Another instance was during a construction project where I was tasked with documenting progress. Using Solocator, I captured images of the site at different stages, complete with GPS data. This not only helped in reporting to stakeholders but also provided a visual timeline of the project’s development.

User Experience

The user interface of Solocator is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a clean layout that made navigation a breeze. The camera function is easily accessible, and I appreciated how quickly I could switch between taking photos and reviewing my previous shots. The workflow is smooth; I could take a picture, add a watermark, and immediately see the GPS data without any lag. Performance-wise, the app is reliable, and I’ve never experienced crashes or slowdowns, even when using it in remote areas.

Overall, my experience with Solocator has been overwhelmingly positive. The combination of GPS tagging and customizable features has made my work not only easier but also more professional. I feel confident that I’m capturing not just images, but valuable data that can be referenced later.

Pricing

Solocator offers a free version with basic features, which is great for casual users. However, for those who want to unlock the full potential of the app, there’s a one-time purchase option that provides access to all advanced features. I found the pricing to be reasonable, especially considering the value it adds to my work. The investment is well worth it for anyone serious about photography or fieldwork.

Updates & Support

The developers of Solocator are committed to providing regular updates, which is evident from the app’s changelog. I’ve noticed improvements in functionality and user experience with each update. Additionally, customer support is responsive and helpful. I had a minor issue with the watermark feature, and the support team addressed my query promptly, ensuring I could continue my work without interruption.

Security & Privacy Review

When it comes to security and privacy, Solocator takes user concerns seriously. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. Upon installation, I was required to provide minimal personal data, primarily for account creation, which I appreciated. There are no intrusive ads, and I didn’t notice any tracking behavior that would compromise my privacy. The app focuses on functionality rather than monetization through ads, which is a significant plus for users who value their data security.

Overall, I feel confident using Solocator, knowing that my personal information is protected and that the app is designed with user privacy in mind. This aspect is particularly important for American users who are increasingly aware of their digital footprint.

The basic app is really useful. However, I also purchased the Industry Pack because it is supposed to allow you to export kml, and similar data, but I can't figure out how to do that. Furthermore, I can't find a guide for this product, which would be really useful. Edit: John, the developer first this app, has been very responsive in emails. I have changed my rating to 4 stars. FYI, he is working on the kml upload function for android devices and it is currently only available for iOS.

This app used to be so easy to use. I don't know what happened or when, but it has changed. The options on the photos change whenever, the fields in the csv do not populate when you fill them in, the photos don't separate into albums and uploading the photos has gotten incredibly difficult. I used to love this app but now I am looking for something else for my company to use in the field for our environmental science work.

Does the advertised job of overlaying photos with location and direction data. It also embedded exif data just fine. The photos I took imported into Google Maps with no problem. It's a little buggy, though. For a while, it took two photos without the overlay for each one photo with the overlay. Also, it turned my flash on and kept it on like a flashlight. I was also not thrilled to pay for a nap, and then it be immediately offered to pay more for an in-app purchase. the price of the app is low, so it's not that big a deal. But it sure is tacky.

Great concept, extremely buggy and inconsistent execution, especially for the paid profe. Photos do not upload as advertised, some will, but not all. The naming convention and inability to upload photos has resulted in multiple photos with the same name when im actually able to connect my phone to the computer to upload. Also, the picture is not instantaneous, it takes a very long time to take the actual photo, so if you move it's blurry or not a picture of what you wanted. Not worth it.

I love the direction/location tagging & being able to title my own photos & add notes. This makes it very easy to import photos to a computer as the files are named by the written title I gave and time taken. I'm docking stars because of poor photo and zooming quality (I often have to take back up photos with my normal phone camera) & because it doesn't interface well with my Samsung s9; Solocator photos often do not load into my texting app. They appear as white boxes or won't attach at all.
