2.9 The Sonos S1 Controller app is a powerful tool that enhances your audio experience, allowing you to control your Sonos speakers seamlessly. Here are some of its standout features:
My journey with the Sonos S1 Controller app began when I decided to upgrade my home audio system. I often host gatherings, and I wanted a solution that would allow me to play music throughout my home effortlessly. One of my favorite scenarios is during weekend brunches. I set up my Sonos speakers in the kitchen and dining area, and with just a few taps on the app, I can create a lively atmosphere with upbeat tunes. The ability to control the volume in different rooms is a game-changer, allowing me to keep the kitchen lively while maintaining a more relaxed vibe in the dining area.
The user interface of the Sonos S1 Controller is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon opening the app, I am greeted with a clean layout that makes navigation a breeze. The main screen displays all my connected speakers, and I can easily select which one I want to control. The workflow is smooth; I can quickly switch between playlists, adjust volume levels, and even access my favorite streaming services without any hiccups. Performance-wise, the app is responsive, and I’ve never experienced lag or connectivity issues, even when controlling multiple speakers simultaneously. Overall, using the Sonos S1 Controller feels seamless and enjoyable, enhancing my audio experience significantly.
The Sonos S1 Controller app is free to download and use, which is a fantastic value considering the extensive features it offers. However, to fully enjoy the app's capabilities, you will need to invest in Sonos speakers, which can range from affordable to premium prices depending on the model. For anyone serious about audio quality, the investment is well worth it.
Sonos is known for its commitment to customer satisfaction, and the S1 Controller app is no exception. The app receives regular updates that enhance functionality and fix any bugs. I appreciate that Sonos provides detailed release notes, so I know what improvements to expect. Additionally, their customer support is responsive and helpful, making it easy to resolve any issues I might encounter while using the app.
As an American user, I take security and privacy seriously, and the Sonos S1 Controller app addresses these concerns effectively. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the security standards of these platforms. When registering, the app requires minimal personal data, primarily focusing on your email address for account creation. This is reassuring, as it limits the amount of personal information shared.
Moreover, I have not encountered any intrusive ads or excessive tracking behavior while using the app. Sonos prioritizes user privacy, and I appreciate that they do not bombard me with advertisements or sell my data to third parties. Overall, I feel secure using the Sonos S1 Controller, knowing that my information is protected while I enjoy my music.

Can't add a simple networked folder with the most universally compatible .wav files. Fails at the most trivial tasks that were seamless in the late 90s. Adding networked folders with universal industry file types has been the minimal expected functionality since 1996 and Sonos failed to meet that expectation for 30 years! There are other hardware vendors that comply with best practices. Look elsewhere for products that comply with bare minimum industry standards (like adding your own music).

For as much as these speakers cost, it should be better. The sound is still terrific! Double A+, really. But the app, though better, still needs work. I have to hit several buttons to turn off the link; as if I don't know I want to close the app. & it still gets buggy about accessing my entire library (whether by cell or by laptop). By this point in time it's disappointing.

I love the speakers. I have two Play 5 speakers in stereo mode. The app, on the other hand, I am not so crazy about. I use it on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The app is difficult to navigate, hard to return to a previous screen, find myself having to start over to go backwards, it frequently does not play songs on my Android device through to the end before it skips to the next track. Does just fine with streaming services, however.

App takes forever to load, and most of the time fails to connect to my speakers. I have an older play 5 and a play 3, spent probably 800-1000 for these speakers and the app never connects, wont work without location? (Why do you need that, everything is on the network I'm connected to?) Plus, these days after updates I cant even plug things directly into them, which was the last straw. I wish I had just got a nice Bose or really anything else at this point

Overall annoying and harder to use than it should be. My husband and I have 2 Sonos players in 2 different places. I mostly use Amazon Prime and he uses Apple. I cannot see Amazon on the app and it's basically crippled for using Amazon. Signing back and forth between users is annoying. Also, it just dropped my Amazon and I have to re-add and now having password problems. Should be easier. I own multiple Bluetooth speakers that connect flawlessly.
