1.6 The "Sony | Imaging Edge Mobile" app is a powerful companion for Sony camera users, designed to enhance the photography experience. Here are some of its standout features:
As an avid photographer, I often find myself in various scenarios where the "Sony | Imaging Edge Mobile" app proves to be an indispensable tool. One of my favorite uses is during family gatherings. I set up my Sony camera on a tripod, and with the remote shooting feature, I can capture candid moments without being in the frame. This has allowed me to document precious memories without the hassle of asking someone else to take the photo.
Another scenario is during my travels. I love exploring new places and capturing the essence of each location. The image transfer feature comes in handy when I want to share my experiences on social media in real-time. After a day of shooting, I can quickly select my best shots and upload them directly from my phone, keeping my followers updated on my adventures.
The user interface of the "Sony | Imaging Edge Mobile" app is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon opening the app, I am greeted with a clean layout that makes navigation a breeze. The workflow is seamless; connecting to my camera is straightforward, and I appreciate how quickly the app recognizes my device. The live view functionality is particularly impressive, providing a clear and responsive feed that allows me to compose shots with precision.
Performance-wise, the app is reliable. I have experienced minimal lag when transferring images, and the remote shooting feature works flawlessly, even at a distance. Overall, my experience with the app has been overwhelmingly positive. It has enhanced my photography sessions, making them more enjoyable and efficient.
The "Sony | Imaging Edge Mobile" app is free to download on both the App Store and Google Play. This is a significant advantage, as it allows all Sony camera users to access its powerful features without any financial commitment. Given the app's capabilities, I believe it offers excellent value, especially for those who are serious about their photography.
Sony regularly updates the "Imaging Edge Mobile" app, ensuring that it remains compatible with the latest camera models and operating systems. I appreciate the promptness of these updates, as they often include new features and improvements based on user feedback. Additionally, the support provided by Sony is commendable. Their online resources, including FAQs and user guides, are helpful for troubleshooting any issues I encounter.
As an American user, I take security and privacy seriously, and I was pleased to find that the "Sony | Imaging Edge Mobile" app is available on official app stores, which adds a layer of trust. The app requires registration, but the personal data requirements are minimal, primarily asking for an email address to create an account. This is reassuring, as it limits the amount of personal information shared.
Regarding ads and tracking behavior, I have not noticed any intrusive advertisements while using the app. It appears that Sony prioritizes user experience over aggressive marketing tactics. However, I recommend reviewing the privacy policy to understand how your data may be used, as transparency is crucial in today’s digital landscape. Overall, I feel secure using the app, knowing that my data is handled responsibly.

Absolutely awful app. I don't understand why they don't just allow "older" (a6400) compatibility with the new app that supposedly functions properly. Instead, THAT app only works with the newest $1,000+ cameras. This app has so many problems, ranging from general connectivity issues to, "Oh sorry I won't shoot because suddenly autofocus doesn't work remotely, oops!" that it's infuriating to use and more often than not makes me get out my Canon DSLR from 2013 just to shoot simple self portraits.

Useless. It used to work like two years or so ago. Now, it's only good for personal information stealing and that's about it. Everything needs to be turned on for it to supposedly work; Bluetooth, nfc, wifi, location, ect. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why I need every single radio on the phone to be turned on when it used to work off of wifi only.

Do not install the December updates! Ever since the new December versions were installed, I need to accept the terms and condition every time I start the app. More troublesome is that the location feature does not connect to the camera unless I open the app and restart the bluetooth. The older versions automatically connected to the camera and offered the option to use permissions all the time. Not anymore. These new features essentially make the location function of limited use.

TL'DR: Absolutely terrible app. I used to able to connect my phone to my Sony A7iii camera and take photos before, but now I cannot even do that. I get a weird error all the time. Even back then when it worked, you couldn't do much. All you could do was to see yourself in camera, which was useful for taking selfies. However, you still couldn't change the focus from app. Sony's menu system isn't that great. I wish you could change the camera settings using this app, because it is a lot simpler on a phone. However, this app fails to provide that, even when it works. I think having a great app can be game changing in this day and age. I hope Sony comes up with an App similar to what DJI and other companies provide with their hardware.

As noted by others, this is the most frustrating non-intuitive App in the world. It took me hours of research and trial and error, involving QR codes, various settings on the camera, and various settings on my phone to finally get a connection that allowed me to record GPS data on my Sony pictures, only to then discover that every time the App auto updates on my phone it loses connection with the camera, and I have to try and remember and repeat the whole frustrating process.
