YouTube Music is a streaming service designed for music lovers, offering a vast library of songs, albums, and playlists. With personalized recommendations, users can discover new artists and genres tailored to their tastes. The app features official music videos, live performances, and user-generated content, enhancing the listening experience. Seamlessly integrated with YouTube, it allows users to switch between audio and video effortlessly, making it a versatile platform for enjoying music anytime, anywhere.

Features & Highlights

YouTube Music has quickly become a go-to platform for music lovers, offering a plethora of features that enhance the listening experience. Here are some of the core highlights that make it stand out:

  • Extensive Music Library: YouTube Music boasts a vast collection of songs, albums, and playlists. Whether you're into mainstream hits or indie gems, you can find it all. For instance, I recently discovered a hidden gem from a local artist while browsing through the "Discover" section, which made my day.
  • Personalized Playlists: The app curates playlists based on your listening habits, ensuring that you always have fresh music to enjoy. I often find myself in the mood for something specific, and the "Your Mix" playlist has never failed to deliver the perfect soundtrack for my evening runs.
  • Offline Listening: With a premium subscription, you can download your favorite tracks and playlists for offline listening. This feature has been a lifesaver during my daily commute, allowing me to enjoy music without worrying about data usage or spotty connections.
  • Seamless Integration with YouTube: YouTube Music allows users to switch between audio and video effortlessly. I often find myself watching live performances or music videos, and the transition is smooth, making it easy to enjoy both formats without missing a beat.
  • Smart Search Functionality: The app's search feature is incredibly intuitive, allowing you to find songs by lyrics, genre, or even mood. Just the other day, I was trying to recall a song from my childhood, and by typing in a few lyrics, I was able to find it in seconds.

Real Experience Using "YouTube Music"

Application Scenarios

My daily routine is often accompanied by music, and YouTube Music has become an integral part of it. In the mornings, I kickstart my day with an energizing playlist while preparing breakfast. The app's "Morning Motivation" playlist is my go-to, filled with upbeat tracks that set a positive tone for the day. During my commute, I switch to offline mode, enjoying my downloaded playlists without worrying about data. In the evenings, I love to unwind with some chill music while cooking dinner, often exploring new genres through the app's recommendations. The versatility of YouTube Music makes it suitable for any moment, whether I'm working out, relaxing, or hosting friends.

User Experience

The user interface of YouTube Music is sleek and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. The home screen presents a well-organized layout, showcasing personalized playlists, trending songs, and new releases. I appreciate how easy it is to switch between different sections, such as "Library," "Home," and "Search." The feature workflow is seamless; for instance, adding a song to my library or creating a new playlist takes just a couple of taps. Performance-wise, the app runs smoothly without any noticeable lag, even when streaming high-quality audio. Overall, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, as the app not only meets my music needs but also introduces me to new artists and genres I might not have explored otherwise.

Pricing

YouTube Music offers a free version supported by ads, which is great for casual listeners. However, for those who want an ad-free experience and additional features like offline listening, the premium subscription is available at a reasonable monthly fee. I opted for the premium plan, and it has been worth every penny, especially considering the convenience it provides during my daily activities.

Updates & Support

The app receives regular updates, which often include new features and improvements based on user feedback. I’ve noticed enhancements in the recommendation algorithms, making my playlists even more tailored to my tastes. Customer support is also commendable; I had a minor issue with my subscription, and the response from the support team was prompt and helpful. It’s reassuring to know that the developers are actively working to enhance the user experience.

Security & Privacy Review

As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, and YouTube Music does a commendable job in this regard. The app is available on official app stores like the App Store and Google Play, ensuring a safe download experience. When registering, the app requires basic personal data, such as an email address, which is standard for most music streaming services. However, it’s essential to be aware of the data collection practices; YouTube Music does track user behavior to personalize recommendations, which can be a concern for some. While ads are present in the free version, the premium subscription eliminates them, providing a more streamlined experience. Overall, I feel secure using YouTube Music, but I always recommend reviewing privacy settings to ensure your data is managed according to your preferences.

Pros
  • Vast library of songs and playlists available
  • Personalized recommendations based on listening habits
  • Ad-free experience with premium subscription option
  • Offline listening for music on the go
  • Seamless integration with YouTube videos and content
Cons
  • Limited music library compared to competitors
  • Interface can be confusing for new users
  • Frequent ads for non-premium subscribers
  • Offline listening requires a paid subscription

Playback freezing seems to be fixed but the "radio" playlist generation has been significantly nerfed. The previous algorithm played almost no music that was new to me, and the new one plays almost exclusively music I've never heard before. It used to be a pretty good mix a few years ago. The radio also caps at like 20 songs so if you're trying to set it and forget it you're going to need to make your own custom playlist or select a new starter song every 1-2 hours. UI is less user friendly :(

I have Amazon Prime and Spotify, but never use them because this app had everything I need/want, and tell everyone how great it is. Well, I did! I HATE the update! I used to discover long forgotten songs using the "Related" feature. It was easier to get to the "Next" list to rearrange as needed. Overall, it was much more functional. I hope enough people complain and changes will be made at least adding back the "Related" function. (I have this app as part of my YouTube Premium account)

For the most part, I like this better than Spotify. I'm still disappointed how some of the artists I like, there are only 2 or 3 albums available when there are 10 or so. I dislike how when the band has a "the" it's under the letter "T". Some bands like The Dave Pike Set have it both ways so some of their albums are in different places.

It's very good and works with your pre-existing yt subscription. The things I don't like are that the playlists have a hard-limit of 5000 and that o desktop, the website can be very finicky and laggy. The things I do like are there is almost no delay when switching between songs, on both mobile and desktop. The library draws from youtube, so nearly every song is on here, including niche videogame soundtracks.

When I add a song to the queue, it displays a message saying "song added to queue" which covers up the buttons at the bottom, so I have to wait for it to disappear before I can look at my queue. Horrible use of screen real estate. And now it puts a big message over the album art that asks if I want to cast to a nearby device, even though the cast button has always been there in the top corner. I have to hit X to get rid of it, but if my finger is too many pixels to the left, it'll cast anyway.
