2.5 Blue Iris is a powerful video surveillance software that transforms your computer into a robust security system. With its extensive features, it caters to both home users and businesses alike. Here are some of the core features that make Blue Iris stand out:
As a homeowner and a small business owner, I found numerous scenarios where Blue Iris became an essential part of my daily routine. At home, I set up cameras in strategic locations, such as the front door and backyard. This setup allowed me to monitor deliveries and keep an eye on my pets while I was away. At my business, I installed cameras in the stockroom and at the entrance. This not only helped deter theft but also provided valuable insights into customer traffic patterns. The ability to switch between different camera feeds seamlessly made it easy to stay informed about both my home and business environments.
The user interface of Blue Iris is intuitive and user-friendly, which made my experience enjoyable right from the start. The dashboard is well-organized, allowing me to view all my camera feeds at a glance. Navigating through the settings was straightforward, and I appreciated the detailed tutorials available for each feature. The performance of the app was impressive; I experienced minimal lag when switching between camera views, even when accessing the app remotely. Overall, my feelings after using Blue Iris were overwhelmingly positive. It provided me with a sense of security and control that I hadn’t experienced with other surveillance systems.
Blue Iris offers a competitive pricing model that is accessible for both casual users and businesses. The software is available for a one-time purchase, which includes a generous trial period to test its features. While there are additional costs for cloud storage and advanced features, I found the initial investment to be well worth the peace of mind it provided. The pricing structure is transparent, with no hidden fees, making it easy to budget for.
One of the standout aspects of Blue Iris is its commitment to regular updates and customer support. The developers frequently release updates that enhance functionality and address any bugs. I was particularly impressed with the responsiveness of their support team when I had questions about setting up my cameras. They provided detailed guidance and were quick to resolve my issues, which made my experience even better.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when it comes to surveillance apps like Blue Iris. The app is available on official platforms, ensuring that it meets certain security standards. During the registration process, I was required to provide minimal personal data, which is a plus for privacy-conscious users. I appreciated that Blue Iris does not bombard users with ads or engage in excessive tracking behavior, allowing me to use the app without feeling like my data was being exploited. Overall, I felt secure using Blue Iris, knowing that my privacy was respected while still benefiting from its powerful surveillance capabilities.

4 Desktop versions and an Android update and sounds are pretty much fixed finally. BUT push alerts are still hit and miss. Some are fast, others take minutes or longer. Or never show up. Changing priority from normal to high doesn't change that either. Annoying to pay for this app in addition to the desktop version for something crucial like timely alerts thst do not work properly. I paid for the maintenance contract. Anyone who didn't is now SOL, and won't get updates to a fixed version.

UI is functional but feels very dated. I'm frustrated by the inability to change the layout of cameras on-screen- If I pull up a group of two cameras I don't want to see them side by side on a vertical phone screen. The connection to the server is usually pretty snappy, at least. Overall, the excellent BI server-side software deserves a much better mobile app, especially for the price.

All good. Stunnel issues all handled and i am very happy with this program! Down from 5 stars to zero (well ... one star as that's as low as it can go). The program refuses to connect via stunnel. Which means I can't connect via https over the internet. Please FIX. It really doesn't matter what bells and whistles you add to the program until it can connect to the server. I like the new version, but what the heck good is a program that can't connect??

Old version of the app worked great, until update to 3.0.15. This automatic update has essentially broken my Blue Iris system. Now, I cannot access my v4 server on any interface. Stunnel is giving errors pertaining to sslv3 alert certificate unknown, but only with this version of the app (on a phone which just yesterday worked perfectly). Other phones which, by luck, haven't been upgraded yet also still work just fine. Ugh.

The app is generally cumbersome and unintuitive compared to other modern services. Video's stutter, and are quite glitchy, finding what you're looking for is a chore. Support is also practically non-existant, response time is about a week, and you go in circles. Remote access outside my network is broken, so I'm forced to use the remote URL bookmarked in a web browser on my phone instead. I paid $80 for this support too, on top of the $10 app.
