Users can discover hidden gems in their neighborhoods, share their finds, and contribute to a growing database of edible resources. With Falling Fruit, explore the bounty of nature right in your city and promote a greener, more connected lifestyle.

Features & Highlights

  • Interactive Map of Foraging Locations - The app features a user-friendly interactive map that pinpoints locations where you can find edible plants. For instance, while strolling through my neighborhood park, I discovered a hidden patch of wild blackberries, thanks to the app's detailed mapping.
  • Community Contributions - Users can add their own foraging finds, enriching the database with local knowledge. One weekend, I added a spot where I found some delicious elderberries, which not only helped others but also fostered a sense of community among foragers.
  • Plant Identification Guides - The app includes comprehensive guides to help identify various edible plants. I remember feeling uncertain about a plant I spotted during a hike, but the identification feature provided me with the necessary information to confirm it was safe to eat.
  • Seasonal Foraging Calendar - This feature informs users about the best times to forage for specific plants. I planned my foraging trips around the calendar, ensuring I didn’t miss out on seasonal delights like wild garlic in spring.
  • Offline Access - The app allows users to download maps and guides for offline use, which is perfect for remote areas without cell service. On a recent camping trip, I was able to navigate to foraging spots without worrying about losing signal.

I love the concept but the app could use a lot of work. Cannot upload images from gallery. You have to physically be in front of the wild edible to snap a picture of it to upload the image. There's isn't any sort of profile system. Would be nice to have profiles so people can have images and maybe a counter for now many spots they have uploaded. Would be a good incentive for people to start sharing more spots because it's pretty bare. Hope this app improves and doesn't become stagnant.

I like the service so I got the app. The app is worse than the online version. so many things are not there. I can't even give feedback on the app. Imagine I want to find an apple tree, there are like 50 kinds listed and I can only select one so the 10 apple trees near me don't show up. I also can't favorite certain places or yes so I can remember that they were good. I can't even find my own reviews in the app. Every entry needs to list the season when they are fruiting..most don't right now

This is an awesome tool for sharing information on local urban foraging! There are certainly areas for improvement, but for the price it's a great service. I would love the option of adding favorites, or a way to refer back to where I've visited. I would also like an option to delete/retire locations that are no longer available (for example, there's a ton of entries for a local grocery chain that closed years ago, and as far as I can tell there's not a way to get them removed).

Nice, though the functionality is lacking in some areas. For example, it should be possible to select an item in the list view and then see that specific item highlighted on the map. I love the idea as I've kept a private fruit map for years, though I think iNaturalist has far more content at the moment, despite not having an edible fruit focus.

The paid mobile app is worse than the free browser version. I'm in probably one of the best parts of the world for this thing, and I had to refund it. I downloaded in hopes of finding all the plum trees in the East Bay for a foraged jam-making event, but found the search far too specific (like, 10 cultivars of just the *European* plum, with no option to search a broader filter). Neither map nor list view has complete info, and they're impossible to cross-reference. I could go on...
