4.6 When it comes to saving money on everyday expenses like gas and food, "Upside: Cash Back - Gas & Food" stands out with its user-friendly interface and impressive features. Here are some of the core highlights that make this app a must-have for savvy spenders:
As someone who is always on the go, I found myself using the Upside app in various scenarios. For instance, during my weekly grocery shopping trip, I checked the app for any cash back offers at the supermarket. To my delight, I discovered that I could earn 10% cash back on my total purchase. I made sure to upload my receipt right after checking out, and the cash back was credited to my account within hours.
Another scenario was during a recent road trip. I used the app to locate gas stations along my route that offered cash back. Not only did I save money on fuel, but I also discovered a charming diner nearby that was offering cash back on meals. It turned a simple pit stop into a delightful dining experience, all while saving money!
The user interface of the Upside app is clean and intuitive. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a dashboard displaying nearby offers, which made it easy to find deals. The workflow for redeeming cash back is seamless; I simply select an offer, make my purchase, and upload my receipt. The app’s performance has been smooth, with no lag or crashes during my usage. Overall, I felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that I was saving money effortlessly.
One of the best aspects of the Upside app is that it is completely free to use. There are no hidden fees or subscription costs, which is a breath of fresh air in a world where many cash back apps charge for premium features. The only cost is the money I spend on gas and food, which I would be paying anyway. The cash back I earn feels like a bonus!
Upside regularly updates its app to improve user experience and add new features. I appreciate that they listen to user feedback and make necessary adjustments. Customer support is also readily available through the app, and I had a positive experience when I reached out with a question about my cash back. They responded promptly and resolved my issue efficiently, which left me feeling valued as a user.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, especially one that deals with financial transactions. The Upside app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. During registration, I was required to provide basic personal information, but I appreciated that the app clearly outlined how my data would be used and protected.
In terms of ads and tracking behavior, I noticed that while the app does use location services to provide relevant offers, it does so transparently. I was given the option to opt-out of certain tracking features, which I found reassuring. Overall, I feel confident using the Upside app, knowing that my personal information is handled with care.

The app sends you to a station for an offer but then says it can't find the transaction. It marks it as "needs review" but there's no review. You get trapped in an endless chat bot that won't let you actually speak to a real person. Constant "ok, but first enter xxx" when you ask for help. I have 6 or 7 offers that need review and won't be paid. So ultimately, I went to stations that had higher prices because of offers, and now they refuse to pay it.

Cashing out for the first time. So far, been saving up for about 8 months. only 2 gripes: Some stations started out offering several cents back, but now only 1¢ or nothing. Also, I wish I didn't have to switch back and forth between regular and premium to see the prices for each. My daily car takes regular, my classic muscle car takes premium. it's just one extra step that I have to take any time I need to gas up the fun car. (Tip - many loyalty programs do not affect the cash back from Upside!

It's pretty much a way for stores to get a bit of extra sales. you go out of your way to drive to the locations with the "offers" yet I'm 50/50 currently on them honering the receipts. One was an issue where my card wouldn't work at the pump so I had to go in and pay first. The other I still haven't heard back on, but I'm sure it is going to be declined because it has taken way too long. Not worth the effort unfortunately.

I wish the CB didn't change on a dime and vary so much, but overall, I'm a huge fan. It initially felt a bit invasive having to log my card #s and account info, but the turnover time is so quick, it's pretty much forgiven. And the continual stream from referrals is nice. I just wish there were more options and places included, like my preferred gas station.

New review, with commentary this time! I liked this app.. now, it's starting to piss me off more often than not. Qualifying purchases seem to process without issue lately (previously expired or dismissed often in app Activity log). Inaccurate prices are practically CONSTANT now, why should I keep using YOUR app when I have to cross reference GasBuddy, Google Maps, or someone else to verify YOU have the right price and deal on a given gas station? What happened to the 'last updated' pricing?
