4.8 As someone who frequently travels for both work and leisure, I found myself using the ArriveCAN app on multiple occasions. One notable instance was during a business trip to Toronto. Before my flight, I needed to ensure that I complied with all the health regulations due to the ongoing pandemic. I opened the app, filled out my travel details, and submitted my health information. The app guided me through the process step-by-step, making it easy to understand what was required.
Another scenario was when I was planning a weekend getaway with friends. We were unsure about the latest travel restrictions, so I turned to ArriveCAN for the most current information. The app provided us with real-time updates, which allowed us to make informed decisions about our trip without any last-minute surprises.
The user interface of ArriveCAN is refreshingly simple and intuitive. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a clean layout that made it easy to navigate through various sections. The workflow for submitting my information was seamless; I simply followed the prompts, and within minutes, I had completed my health declaration. The app's performance was impressive, with no lag or crashes during my usage, which is crucial when you’re trying to get through airport security quickly.
Overall, my feelings after using the app were overwhelmingly positive. It alleviated a lot of the stress associated with travel during uncertain times. Knowing that I had all my documentation in order gave me peace of mind, allowing me to focus on enjoying my trip rather than worrying about compliance.
One of the best aspects of the ArriveCAN app is that it is completely free to use. There are no hidden fees or premium features that require payment, which is a significant advantage for travelers looking to save on costs. This accessibility makes it an essential tool for anyone planning to visit Canada, especially during these times when health regulations are constantly evolving.
ArriveCAN is regularly updated to reflect the latest travel guidelines and health protocols. I noticed that the app received an update shortly after my trip, which included new features and improved functionality. The support team is also responsive; I reached out with a question about a specific feature and received a helpful reply within a day. This level of customer service adds to the overall positive experience of using the app.
As an American user, I had some initial concerns about the security and privacy of my personal data when using ArriveCAN. However, I was reassured to find that the app is available on official app stores, such as the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. During the registration process, I was only required to provide essential information, such as my name, contact details, and travel itinerary, which felt reasonable given the context.
Importantly, I did not encounter any ads or intrusive tracking behavior while using the app. This was a significant relief, as many free apps often monetize through ads or data collection. ArriveCAN appears to prioritize user privacy, which is crucial for maintaining trust, especially in a time when data security is a hot topic. Overall, I felt secure using the app, knowing that my information was handled responsibly.

known to not work for many people - does not receive regular updates. Has well-documented bugs. Other users have reported getting stuck at exactly 12% during the passport scan step. The fix that's worked for some people: uninstall the app completely and reinstall it — did not work. Worth noting: ArriveCAN is no longer mandatory — it's optional but recommended to speed up the customs process.

Your passport scanner isn't great. I can't get the photo and bottom bar of numbers to align well enough for it to do it's automated scan. Maybe it's my phone camera but it's like they are too spaced out. Maybe allow the person to take a picture and that gets vetted by your system. Loads of other apps have that ability. I know Japan does. If the dev team behind this app even cares as there is a manual entry option.

A great app to declare customers before arriving. But it as a little slow to upload my passport and I had to restart the app to use it. I manually inputted my documents and which was easier. Also checking information out of the app, restarted my application back again, but my information was saved. Overall a great app instead of just writing on paper as you arrive.

When you have a work visa and live in Canada and are arriving home in Canada, you are still asked how many days you will be there. This is an impossible question to answer accurately. And you have to check and submit every single goods category in a separate screen, although at the airport screen you can check "no to all". So the app is less convenient.

Most of us will say no to most of the general questions (goods, farms, etc) - the app should, as most apps do, flick to the next question rather than having endless clicking of the "No"/"Submit" buttons. ESPECIALLY when the two buttons are well separated on the screen. Just a thought to make it more user-friendly, to increase accuracy and to improve uptake.
