4.3 The "Libre by Abbott" app is a game-changer for those managing diabetes, particularly for individuals using the FreeStyle Libre glucose monitoring system. This app not only enhances the user experience but also empowers users to take control of their health. Here are some of its standout features:
As someone living with diabetes, I rely heavily on the "Libre by Abbott" app in various aspects of my daily life. One of the most common scenarios is during my morning routine. After waking up, I scan my FreeStyle Libre sensor with the app to get an immediate reading of my glucose levels. This helps me decide whether I need a quick snack before breakfast or if I can proceed with my usual meal.
Another scenario is during my workouts. I often go for runs or hit the gym, and I use the app to monitor my glucose levels in real-time. If I notice my levels dropping, I can quickly grab a glucose tablet or a sports drink to prevent any issues. The app’s alerts have been particularly useful here, as they notify me if my levels are getting too low, allowing me to take action before it becomes a problem.
The user interface of the "Libre by Abbott" app is intuitive and user-friendly. Upon opening the app, I’m greeted with a clean dashboard that displays my current glucose level, along with a trend graph that shows how my levels have fluctuated over the past hours and days. Navigating through the app is seamless; I can easily access my logs, insights, and settings without any confusion.
Performance-wise, the app is responsive and rarely lags, which is crucial when I need quick information. I appreciate the detailed insights it provides, allowing me to analyze my glucose patterns and make informed decisions about my diet and exercise. Overall, my experience with the app has been overwhelmingly positive, as it has made managing my diabetes much more manageable and less stressful.
The "Libre by Abbott" app is free to download and use, which is a significant advantage for users. However, it’s important to note that the app is designed to work with the FreeStyle Libre sensor, which does come at a cost. While the initial investment in the sensor may seem high, the ongoing benefits of real-time monitoring and data insights make it a worthwhile expense for anyone serious about managing their diabetes effectively.
Abbott regularly updates the "Libre by Abbott" app to enhance its functionality and user experience. I’ve noticed improvements in the app’s performance and new features being added over time, which shows the company’s commitment to user satisfaction. Additionally, customer support is readily available through the app, providing assistance for any issues or questions I may have. This level of support gives me confidence in using the app as part of my diabetes management routine.
As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when it comes to health-related apps. The "Libre by Abbott" app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the necessary security standards for mobile applications. During the registration process, I was required to provide some personal information, but the app clearly outlines how this data will be used and protected.
Importantly, the app does not bombard users with ads, which is a relief. I appreciate that my data is not being sold to third parties for advertising purposes. Additionally, the app has robust privacy settings, allowing me to control who can access my glucose data. This level of transparency and control is crucial for maintaining my trust in the app and ensuring my personal health information remains secure.

If it wasn't for the app hijacking my sounds, I would give it a real score. I don't even mind if it notifies for the urgent low, but the fact that I get a system notification too often just because of the 'alarms unavailable,' is ridiculous. Problem with that is there is no way on android to turn that off. I would prefer no alarms at all but I understand why the Urgent Low has to be there, but if the rest are our choice then allow us to truly control it.

switched to this app from the libre 3 app at the app's suggestion. I find this new app a bit more difficult to use because of the note function. On the previous app, it would let you record everything (quick insulin, long lasting insulin, exercise, food) in one note. however, this new app requires you to make a separate note for each entry. This is particularly annoying in the morning and in the evening when I eat a meal and take insulin(s) and have to make two or three entries instead of one.

11/24/25 update: It seems like I cannot trust my CGM at all. it is constantly 25+ points lower than my regular meter. How am I supposed to make informed decisions without doing 10 or more fingersticks in a day? I hate that I cannot add my fingerstick readings into a reading of its own in this app. and as many others say, it is a pain to log everything individually. Please give us, the actual users, some credit to tell you what this app needs to be functionable!

Insurance made me switch, and I am not impressed with the Libre app. The app and my glucometer don't match, and you can't calibrate the app. It gave me a false low alert that woke me up in the middle of the night. You have to fully open the app to see your blood sugar level. You can't change the time range of the blood sugar chart. My battery usage has increased. The reporting tools seem to be very limited. I hope that once I use up my supplies, I can switch back my previous cgm and app.

When my kids move out, I hope they miss me as much as this app does when it gets too far away from me. Frequent Signal Loss alarms are very annoying. "Too far" could be anywhere from 5 to 25 feet, although sometimes 30 feet is OK. Then there's all the false LOW alarms. They seem to happen most commonly at 2am. Sometimes it's the infamous "compression error", sometimes it's the sensor deciding to start reading ~40 points below a finger stick test. Fix these problems, it's 5🌟, until then 😑
