TripIt is a travel planning app designed to simplify your journey by organizing all your travel details in one place. By automatically importing travel itineraries from your email, it creates a master itinerary that includes flights, accommodations, and activities. With features like real-time flight alerts and offline access, TripIt ensures you stay informed and prepared throughout your trip, making travel stress-free and enjoyable. Whether for business or leisure, TripIt is your ultimate travel companion.

Features & Highlights

  • Automatic Itinerary Creation: TripIt automatically compiles your travel plans into a single itinerary. For instance, when I booked a flight and hotel, I simply forwarded the confirmation emails to TripIt, and within minutes, my entire trip was organized in one place.
  • Real-Time Flight Alerts: Stay updated with real-time notifications about your flights. During my recent trip, I received alerts about gate changes and delays, allowing me to adjust my plans without any last-minute panic.
  • Shared Itineraries: Share your travel plans with friends or family effortlessly. When I traveled with friends, I shared our itinerary through the app, ensuring everyone was on the same page regarding our schedule and activities.
  • Mobile Access: Access your travel plans anytime, anywhere. I found this particularly useful when I was at the airport and needed to check my boarding time; the app was right there on my phone, making it easy to stay organized.
  • Integration with Other Apps: TripIt integrates seamlessly with other travel apps and calendars. I synced it with my Google Calendar, which helped me visualize my travel schedule alongside my daily commitments.

Real Experience Using "TripIt: Travel Planner"

Application Scenarios

As someone who travels frequently for both work and leisure, I found TripIt to be an indispensable tool. Just last month, I had a business trip to San Francisco followed by a weekend getaway in Napa Valley. I used TripIt to manage both legs of my journey. After booking my flights and hotels, I forwarded the confirmation emails to TripIt. The app automatically created a detailed itinerary that included my flight times, hotel check-in details, and even my car rental information. This made it incredibly easy to keep track of everything, especially when I was juggling meetings during the week and planning vineyard tours for the weekend.

User Experience

The user interface of TripIt is clean and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a dashboard that displayed my upcoming trips in a visually appealing manner. The feature workflow is straightforward; I simply add my travel details, and the app does the rest. I particularly appreciated the ease of accessing my itinerary offline, which came in handy during my travels when Wi-Fi was spotty. The performance was smooth, with quick loading times and no crashes, which is crucial when you're on the go. Overall, my experience with TripIt has been overwhelmingly positive; it has transformed the way I plan and manage my travel.

Pricing

TripIt offers a free version that includes basic itinerary features, which is great for casual travelers. However, for those who want more advanced features like real-time flight alerts and seat tracking, the Pro version is available for a subscription fee. I opted for the Pro version during my last trip, and the added benefits were well worth the investment, especially with the peace of mind it provided.

Updates & Support

TripIt is regularly updated, which is evident in the new features and improvements I’ve noticed over time. The support team is responsive and helpful; I reached out once with a question about syncing my calendar, and they replied within a few hours with clear instructions. The app also has a robust FAQ section that addresses common concerns, making it easy to find solutions without needing to contact support.

Security & Privacy Review

As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when using any app, especially one that handles personal travel information. TripIt is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the security standards set by these platforms. When registering, I was required to provide basic personal information, but I appreciated that the app allows for sign-in through existing accounts like Google, which adds an extra layer of security. TripIt does not display ads, which is a significant plus for me. Instead, it focuses on providing a seamless user experience without distractions. However, like many apps, it does collect some data for tracking purposes to improve its services. I found their privacy policy to be transparent, detailing how my information would be used and stored. Overall, I feel confident using TripIt, knowing that my data is handled with care and respect.

9/20/24: App won't open, keep having to uninstall. It's getting worse instead of better. Happy to be able to change the photo. Needs more trip activity options. I love that this syncs to my calendar and that I can add plans manually as well as add viewers/travelers. Sometimes the import information is a little mixed up but that's easy to fix. Overall a good app for traveling. 12/21/24: past trips aren't syncing to calendar if more than 90 days past.

If you have a hard time keeping track of all of your reservations and travel activities on trips, download this app. It's absolutely amazing and allows me to just enjoy my trip and not worry about juggling all of the reservation, check-in/check-out tome, which email I have confirmation codes in, etc. It also beats manually writing out an itinerary (you can create one in Tripit in a tenth of the time by having it pull the reservations from your email). I can't recommend this app more highly!

Traveling always gets me nervous. I’m the guy who checks his ticket ten times, then the passport and then the flight times and then my seat number. Thank the lord for trip it. It has it all, neatly sorted with live updates on flights. I use it for all my travels, much better overview than putting it in the calendar. Super easy to use as well, quick setup, never had any issues whatsoever

Trouble every time I sign in. Doesn't recognize my password. Have to reset the password. Times out immediately while trying to set up the password. I am worried this will happen while on my trip and it will take as much time or more than I could have just had it all in my notes. Also, the timeliness doesn't list things in order. Several glitches there.

This app has one glaring defect that is fatal. It will at times sign you out and then not let you access your info until you sign back in. However, when this occurs, every once in a while there is a major glitch and you can't sign back in. It has become a truly inconvenient hassle now. Why the app isn't designed to locally cache your info to always be available is beyond me. if you can't depend on it, what is the point?
