Real Experience Using "Coursera: Grow your career"

Application Scenarios

As a marketing professional, I often find myself needing to upskill to keep pace with the rapidly changing digital landscape. I use the Coursera app during my lunch breaks and evenings to dive into courses that enhance my knowledge and skills. For example, I recently took a course on SEO strategies that I could immediately apply to my current projects. The ability to learn on-the-go has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to balance work and personal development seamlessly.

User Experience

The user interface of the Coursera app is intuitive and user-friendly. Navigating through the course catalog is a breeze, and I appreciate the clean layout that makes it easy to find what I’m looking for. Each course is well-structured, with video lectures, quizzes, and assignments that keep me engaged. I particularly enjoy the progress tracking feature, which motivates me to complete courses. The app performs smoothly, with minimal loading times, allowing me to focus on learning rather than waiting. Overall, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and I feel empowered by the knowledge I’ve gained.

Pricing

Coursera offers a variety of pricing options, including free courses and subscription models for specializations. I opted for a monthly subscription, which gives me access to multiple courses at once. This flexibility allows me to explore different subjects without committing to a single course. While some may find the subscription cost a bit steep, I believe the value of the education provided justifies the investment in my career growth.

Updates & Support

The Coursera app is regularly updated, ensuring that users have access to the latest features and courses. I’ve noticed improvements in the app’s performance and new functionalities that enhance the learning experience. Additionally, the support team is responsive; I had a question about a course assignment, and they got back to me within a day. This level of support gives me confidence that I can rely on Coursera for my educational needs.

Security & Privacy Review

As an American user, I take security and privacy seriously, especially when using educational apps like Coursera. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. During registration, I was required to provide basic personal information, such as my name and email address, but I appreciated that they do not ask for sensitive data like my Social Security number.

Coursera does not bombard users with ads, which is a significant plus for me. Instead, they focus on delivering quality content. However, I did notice some tracking behavior, as the app collects data to personalize my learning experience. While I understand the need for this to improve services, I hope they continue to prioritize user privacy and provide clear information on how my data is used.

Some courses can be sloppy, sprinkled with grammatical errors, and missing essential video material. The latest course Im taking (London Business School Fundamentals of Analysis) is missing ALL video content. The previous course I took (Bookkeeping Basics by Intuit Academy) marked two correct answers incorrect on the final exam. In general I do feel I am learning, but the general upkeep of the courses needs improvement. please make it more friendly to cell phone users.

I installed this app after seeing an ad but was unable to view any of the course material due to unexpected circumstances at work. I was charged after my 7-Day trial period and then I canceled within the refund window. I never accessed the course but after sending 10 emails back and forth with their AI assistant, I finally got a generic email from a human saying they would not give me a refund. Not sure how the course is but their company is a scam.

Coursera used to be such a great website and app. But as of a few months ago they got rid of virtually all free content. Before, you could learn a course for free but needed to pay to get a certificate. Now you can only learn the first week for free. If you need the certificate or can justify nearly $60 per month just to learn, then it may be with it. The courses are great quality and I learned a lot. It's a shame they got rid of free learning

Following my course was made smooth sailing thanks to this app. Only problems that I had was that the Android version doesn't sync immediately if I were to continue the course on another device. It can get frustrating if you don't remember the last video you watched. Another is that the app doesn't keep track of how long you watched a video, only if you completed it or not. I can watch 14 minutes of a 20 minute video, quit, and then come back to have the timer start back at zero. I did love the video quality, though.

This app is great. I get to continue from the website to my phone. I don't know what others are saying about quizzes having just 1 question. I experienced that once and thought I should update the app which fixed it. One downside would be that it doesn't sync when going into the course. I usually have to exit and go back into the course or app for it to actually sync. Also, it would be great if it didn't automatically mark an exercise/reading as complete when you didn't actually complete it.
