Real Experience Using "LeafSnap Plant Identification"

Application Scenarios

As an avid nature lover, I often find myself exploring local parks and hiking trails. One sunny afternoon, I decided to take a stroll through a nearby botanical garden. Armed with my smartphone and the LeafSnap app, I was eager to identify the various plants I encountered. I came across a striking tree with unusual leaves and snapped a quick photo. Within seconds, LeafSnap identified it as a Sweetgum tree, providing me with fascinating details about its unique star-shaped leaves and the colorful gumballs it produces in the fall. This instant feedback not only enriched my experience but also deepened my appreciation for the flora around me.

Another scenario occurred during a family picnic. My niece, curious about the different flowers blooming around us, asked me to help her identify a bright yellow flower. I quickly opened LeafSnap, took a photo, and within moments, we learned it was a Common Dandelion. The app even provided fun facts about its uses in herbal medicine, which sparked a lively discussion among us. These moments of discovery have made my outings more interactive and educational.

The user interface of LeafSnap is sleek and modern, making it visually appealing and easy to navigate. Upon opening the app, I was greeted with a clean layout that allowed me to either take a photo or browse through the plant database. the ads are not just intrusive, they are misleading, trying to get you to click accidentally. It was tolerable for a time, but now everything I snap is misidentified. I usually only used it when I didn't know what it was. Lately, the answers didn't look like the picture. Now I test it on things I know and it is getting them all very wrong.

Too many ads. When you upload a picture, they pop up shortly after identifying the plant. It's difficult to exit out of them. Shame, because it seemed to be identifying the plants accurately. Not worth it though, as there are other apps that will do the same thing without inundating you with ads. Also, you will have to download Adobe Express.

So far it's great! Not a lot of annoying ads and does exactly what it's supposed. Love the My Plants section so u can keep track of what u are growing. Thought about upgrading to remove ads but it's a monthly price and not a one time feel. Also it would be great if we could change the picture at the top of the my plants section to actually show a group photo of our plants instead of the stock picture.

In terms of doing what it says, I'd say it's pretty good. I've had reasonable accuracy, I like the side-by-side comparisons, I like the amount of information given, it's pretty easy to use, and explicitly supporting fungi is pretty cool too. However, the intrusiveness of the ads and the frequent requests to pay for the app have made it too slow and frustrating to use. I don't use this often enough to justify paying for it. I swapped to a not-so-naggy free app that's at least as accurate.

Was able to identify all my weird succulents and other more common plants. Just take a picture of your plant (my pictures weren't even in the best lighting). Then the app will give you a list of possibilities and you can compare your plant to several pictures. My plants were the first option they gave 90% of the time. Very accurate and easy to use!
