Teachers can easily provide feedback and track student growth, making it an invaluable tool for personalized learning in classrooms.

Features & Highlights

Seesaw is an innovative educational app designed to enhance student engagement and facilitate communication between teachers, students, and parents. Here are some of its core features that truly stand out:

  • Interactive Learning Journal: Seesaw allows students to create a digital portfolio of their work. For instance, a student can upload a video of their science experiment, providing a visual representation of their learning journey.
  • Real-Time Feedback: Teachers can provide immediate feedback on assignments, which is crucial for student growth. Imagine a teacher commenting on a student's math problem submission within minutes, helping them understand their mistakes right away.
  • Parent Engagement: The app fosters communication between parents and teachers. A parent can receive notifications about their child's progress and even view their work, making it easier to support their learning at home.
  • Customizable Activities: Educators can create tailored assignments that cater to different learning styles. For example, a teacher might design a project where students can choose to write an essay, create a video, or draw a picture to express their understanding of a topic.
  • Multimedia Support: Seesaw supports various media types, including photos, videos, and audio recordings. This feature allows students to express their creativity in multiple ways, such as recording a podcast about a book they read.

Real Experience Using "Seesaw"

Application Scenarios

As a parent of a third-grader, I often find myself using Seesaw to stay connected with my child's educational journey. One of the most memorable experiences was during a recent science project. My child was tasked with creating a presentation about the solar system. Using Seesaw, he was able to record a video explaining each planet, which he then uploaded to his journal. I received a notification on my phone, allowing me to watch his presentation and provide feedback right away. This not only made me feel involved but also encouraged him to take pride in his work.

User Experience

The user interface of Seesaw is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for both students and parents to navigate. Upon logging in, I was greeted with a clean dashboard that displayed my child's recent activities and assignments. The workflow is seamless; uploading content is as simple as clicking a button and selecting the media type. I was particularly impressed with the performance—everything loaded quickly, and I never experienced any lag, even when accessing multimedia content. Overall, my experience with Seesaw has been overwhelmingly positive. It feels like a community where learning is celebrated, and I appreciate the emphasis on creativity and collaboration.

Pricing

Seesaw offers a free version that provides essential features, which is perfect for most users. However, for those looking for advanced functionalities, such as additional storage and enhanced reporting tools, there is a paid version available. The pricing is reasonable, especially considering the value it brings to both educators and parents. I found the investment worthwhile, as it significantly enhances my child's learning experience.

Updates & Support

Seesaw is regularly updated, which is evident in the new features and improvements I’ve noticed over time. The support team is responsive and helpful; I once had a question about a feature, and I received a reply within a few hours. Additionally, the app provides a comprehensive help center with tutorials and FAQs, making it easy to find answers to common questions. This level of support gives me confidence in using the app for my child's education.

Security & Privacy Review

As an American user, security and privacy are paramount when it comes to educational apps. Seesaw is available on both the App Store and Google Play, ensuring that it meets the necessary security standards for mobile applications. When registering, I was required to provide minimal personal data, which is a relief in today’s digital age. The app does not display ads, and I appreciate that it does not engage in excessive tracking behavior. Seesaw prioritizes user privacy, which is crucial for parents like me who want to ensure that our children's information is protected. Overall, I feel secure using Seesaw, knowing that it adheres to strict privacy guidelines and focuses on creating a safe learning environment.

I cannot stand how convoluted the desperate parts of this app are bolted together in a "we never planned any of this out" way. "Messages" are tucked into the top corner and don't even open when clicking thru from a notification. The phone's "back" button doesn't register, allowing the user to go back to the message list after reading. It's difficult to tell who your reply is going to send to and could publicly broadcast to an unintended audience. The app feels like one big afterthought.

Great app to use for scool, but it is so hard to make the scroll up or down icon pop up. It keeps disappearing and we aren't able to scroll through what is in the journal. Can you please fix and make it always accessible? My children and I both struggle moving the mouse to make it show up and when it does we can't get to it fast enough before it dissapears again. So frustrating.

This app is so clunky and slow to use on a phone. It being the preferred way to communicate with my child's teacher makes it a very frustrating experience. It's slow to load, slow to respond to the selection to reply to a message, won't attach media (photos, etc). I also can't use the back button to get out of the app. Honestly I wish our school district would use another method. Seesaw is awful.

The experience is is pretty bad, in order to attach an image as part of an assignment you have to edit the entire workspace, and you can just delete entire class modules. Also links are huge tiles, but you can't actually follow the link unless you click on the little chain icon in the corner. Links to YouTube can't play inside of the app, instead punching out to a browser with no way to get back to the app. Maybe our school is just using it wrong, but that still means it's a bad user experience.

Update: I just updated the app and I still am unable to use the back button with the app. I initially loved the app. It's a great way to communicate with my son's teacher. However, I am unable to use the back button on my device anymore, I agree with others about being able to add more than one picture, and can you put teacher image announcements back in the main feed as well that was helpful for me to keep track of important information without searching for it in messages.
